Bachelor Nation, get ready!

This season might be unlike anything the franchise has done before.

For more than two decades, The Bachelorette has followed a familiar formula: a fan-favorite contestant from The Bachelor returns to search for love among a group of hopeful suitors. But Season 22 is breaking tradition in a big way with the casting of Taylor Frankie Paul and fans already have a feeling this could be one of the most talked-about seasons in years.

Taylor, 31, is no stranger to the spotlight. The influencer and reality star built a massive following (more than 7 million across social media) and became a breakout personality on The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, which became Hulu’s most-watched premiere of 2024. But long before she accepted her roses, Taylor’s  personal life had already played out in front of millions online.

Her 2022 divorce from ex-husband Tate Paul went viral amid a controversial "soft-swinging" scandal within her Utah friend group, launching the MomTok creator community into national headlines.

Since then, her story has continued to unfold publicly,  including a turbulent on-again, off-again relationship with Dakota Mortensen, the father of her youngest child. And according to Taylor, stepping into the role of Bachelorette wasn’t about gaining more followers or building her brand. Instead, she says it was about doing something for herself.

"I didn’t have to do this," the reality star said in an interview with Us Weekly. "There was no other reason for me to do this other than I wanted to get outside of Utah and the toxicity that I’m in and venture off and really do something for myself."

For Bachelor Nation, that level of honesty is already part of the appeal. Unlike many past leads who enter the show with polished narratives, Taylor  has been refreshingly candid about her motivations  and fans are taking notice.

As a single mom of three, she says the experience offered something rare – the chance to step away from her everyday life and focus entirely on finding love.

"Who gets this opportunity as a single mom to just purely focus on dating and love and yourself?" she told the outlet. "It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity."

That authenticity is exactly why viewers are so intrigued. Fans who first connected with Taylor through The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives already know she isn’t afraid to show the messy, complicated sides of life  and that raw energy could translate into one of the most unpredictable seasons in franchise history. In fact, Taylor has already teased that her journey will feel different from past ones.

"Usually there’s structure to it," she said. "We had no rules. It was fun. Unexpected…very unpredictable."

For longtime viewers, that promise alone is enough to spark excitement. After years of familiar storylines, Bachelor Nation may finally get a season that feels fresh again – one led by someone who isn’t trying to be perfect, but is simply trying to be real.

And with The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives returning March 12 and Taylor’s season of The Bachelorette premiering March 22 on ABC, fans won’t have to wait long to see how it all unfolds.
