SXSW has always been considered “spring break” for the worlds of music, entertainment, and tech, but in 2026, it felt more like a cultural collision course. For the first time, the festival’s new one-week format brought every corner of the industry together at once, turning Austin into a nonstop, high-energy playground where premieres, performances, panels, and pop-ups all competed for attention.

For fans, it wasn’t just busy, it was electric. From surprise celebrity sightings to standing-room-only screenings and buzzy brand activations, the lines between fandom, culture, and community blurred in real time.

Below, we’re breaking down the moments that had everyone talking, the ones that defined SXSW 2026 for fans on the ground and across the internet.

1. Noah Kahan Debuts Netflix Documentary & Surprise Performance

Noah Kahan’s documentary, Noah Kahan: Out Of Body, premiered at SXSW and chronicles the singer-songwriter’s experience of playing small venues pre-pandemic to his exposive hit “Stick Season” and, of course, his two sold-out nights at Fenway Park in 2024. However, the documentary does more than chronicle Kahan’s rise to fame; it also shares more about his eating disorder and body dysmorphia that he has struggled with for over a decade.

The screening was followed by a discussion with Noah Kahan and Nick Sweeney (Director of Out of Body), moderated by Jason Lipshutz (Billboard’s Co-Chief Content Officer). This discussion gave fans a raw look at Noah. His music is a testament to the mental health challenges he has faced and his complex family dynamics, but this discussion had fans learning even more than they imagined.

Of course, Noah ended his time at SXSW with a surprise performance. During the performance, he shared that he used to have to cancel shows in Texas because he didn’t sell enough tickets, but now he was playing a full house.

Noah Kahan: Out Of Body premieres on Netflix April 13, followed by the release of his new album, 'The Great Divide,' on April 24.

2. AppleTV Premiere’s The Highly Anticipated Margo’s Got Money Troubles

You have likely heard of the wildly popular novel, Margo’s Got Money Troubles, now you’re going to fall even more in love with this IP with AppleTV’s on-screen adaptation. Coming from A24, the show premiered the first three episodes at SXSW with stars Elle Fanning, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Thaddea Graham in attendance.

After the screening, there was a discussion between Elle Fanning (Margo), Michelle Pfeiffer (Shayanne), Thaddea Graham (Susie), David Kelly (series creator, writer, showrunner + EP), Eva Anderson (writer + EP), Kate Herron (Director), Dearbhla Walsh (Director + EP), Rufi Thorpe (Author of the original 2024 noval + EP) and Matthew Tinker (EP). Fanning and Pfeiffer shared how they instantly fell in love with the characters they played,

Not only did fans get a chance to catch a glimpse of their favorite stars on the red carpet, AppleTV also had a fan experience where fans could enter ‘Planet Margot,’ a unique photo opportunity inspired by the show. Planet Margo immersed attendees directly into Margo’s universe. Fans were welcome to wear an alien headband, strike a pose, and gear up on some fluorescent swag.

Margo’s Got Money Troubles premieres April 15 on AppleTV.

3. Prime Video Invites Fans Of Invincible Into A Real-Life Burger Mart

Prime Video and Brisk partnered up to immerse fans in a real-life Burger Mart, just like the restaurant featured in the show. Not only could fans secure an iconic SXSW lunch with a Burger Mart burger, fries, and a custom Brisk can, but fans could also get their photo taken at the center booth and a full swag bag of exclusive merch. Fans felt like they were walking right into their favorite show as they explored the custom artwork on the walls and even discovered a few Easter eggs only true fans would notice.

Season 4 of Invincibles premieres today (March 18) on Prime Video.

4. Netflix Immerses Fans In The World Of Peaky Blinders

Fans are calling this one “one of the most elaborate activations at SXSW this year.” Netflix brought The Garrison from Peaky Blinders right into the streets of Austin. They modeled after post-WWI pubs so that as soon as fans walked in, they were transported into the show. Drinks were bought through heavy gold coins that were given out upon entry, and even the staff were dressed to fit the vibe.

Fans were also invited to take a picture in the photo booth, get a Peaky Blinders-inspired flash tattoo, and even get haircuts right there.

The Peaky Blinders movie is now playing in theaters and will hit Netflix March 22.

5. Lainey Wilson Debuted New Netflix Documentary: Keepin’ Country Cool

When in Texas, there needs to be some country music love. Our girl Lainey Wilson premiered our new Netflix documentary that shares her struggles and victories as she rose to fame in the country music world. Viewers are shocked by the vulnerability that Wilson shares, from childhood dreams of country music fame, sharing how she met her fiancée, to financial troubles she faced not too long ago.

Lainey Wilson also performed at the SXSW beloved venue, Stubb’s Bar-B-Q.

Keepin Country Cool premieres on Netflix April 22.

SXSW is always a jolt of creative energy, a place where the boldest ideas take shape and what’s next in culture begins to reveal itself. But this year felt especially defining. The fan moments weren’t just highlights, they were signals of where entertainment is headed.

From breakout shows poised to dominate group chats to new music already claiming spots on summer playlists, SXSW 2026 reminded us just how quickly fandom turns discovery into obsession. And more than ever, it reinforced a powerful truth: fans aren’t just along for the ride, they’re shaping what rises, what resonates, and what lasts.
