Franklin Jonas and Harper Grace may come from vastly different musical backgrounds, but when they joined forces on their emotional duet “IDK,” something clicked. The song, an aching exploration of modern love, dating anxiety, and vulnerability, wasn’t just a collaboration – it was a turning point.

We sat down with the singer-songwriters to hear the full story: how a performance in Vegas sparked a creative bond, what it was like writing “IDK” alongside songwriter Cooper Bascom, and how they brought their duet to life in front of one of the most loyal fandoms in the world – Jonas Brothers fans at the iconic “JonasCon.”

Their musical chemistry began at an unlikely place – Nelly’s Southern Kitchen in Las Vegas, a family-owned restaurant and performance venue. That night, Grace saw something special in Jonas.

“I just really enjoyed the way he held himself on stage,” Grace told Fandom Daily. “He had this presence, and you could just tell that he loved what he was doing. We ended up striking a friendship and knew we wanted to write something together.”

When Jonas and Grace stepped into the writing room with Bascom, they didn’t set out to write a duet. In fact, Jonas originally envisioned the track for Grace’s solo career.

“I came in with some references. We didn’t even know it would be a duet at first. But then Harper was talking about her love life, I was talking about mine…it just became a dialogue between these two people,” said Jonas, reflecting on his experience. “We built these two characters who represent what so many of us feel – wanting connection, but dealing with all the uncertainty that comes with it. Especially today, with so many platforms and ways to meet people. It can still feel so disconnected. That’s where the song lives – in that tension,” added Grace.

The relatable lyrics resonated deeply with listeners, particularly fans navigating the complexities of dating in their twenties. It’s a universal sentiment, and fans immediately recognized themselves in the narrative.

For Jonas, “IDK” isn’t just stepping out of his brothers’ shadows, he’s stepping into his own light and making a stylistic shift away from the glitzy pop world. The genre-blurring song, released on March 21, showcases a sound that effortlessly blends Americana, folk, and country.

Jonas’ vocals are warm, smooth like butter, and a tad husky. Grace’s wide vocal range complements him beautifully. Their harmonies are destined to send a shiver down your spine, as Grace’s rich country twang will remind you of a modern-day version of Dolly Parton or Patsy Cline

“I’ve tried a lot of different sounds,” admits Jonas. “But the music I’ve always wanted to make,  the stuff I was afraid to make, was more traditional, more rootsy. This song was really the first step in that direction.” Grace, a seasoned country vocalist and songwriter in her own right, says the honor was mutual. “I’ve been a Jonas fan for years, so getting to work with Franklin on this level is just surreal. But even more than that, he’s talented, humble, and honest. The world needs more of that.”

Jonas didn’t hesitate to share that his award-winning brothers gave “IDK” their seal of approval, saying that Joe Jonas even kept the introspective track in his daily rotation. While the three Jersey boys are undoubtedly his most prominent supporters, Jonas admits they also double as his toughest critics.

“They were so supportive,” shared Jonas with a beaming smile. “Joe even posted a story on Instagram, and if you zoom in, he was listening to “IDK.” My girlfriend had to point it out to me. And then my niece watched us on the Today Show. That one hit hard.”

Their first time performing the track was at the Country Radio Seminar in Nashville. They rehearsed the night before, then sang to an intimate but influential crowd. To calm their nerves, they looked at each other while performing. In that very moment, they shaped how they present the song live. That simple, yet intentional choice became a cornerstone of their onstage chemistry. By the time they stepped onto the JonasCon stage, “IDK” had only been released for a few days, but the response was immediate and powerful.

“People were already singing the lyrics back to us,” shared Jonas. “Some even pulled us aside afterward to share their own dating stories. That kind of emotional connection, especially with a brand-new song, is rare.”

He went on to emphasize the power of the Jonas fandom, noting that earning their support carries real significance.

“The Jonas fanbase is so loyal. They’ve built such a strong community of fans,” he explained. “And those fans have been amazing. Some fans saw me back when I was doing weird performance art in a rat costume. They’ve stuck around, and now they’re supporting this country-Americana journey too. Our parents raised us to be our most authentic selves. We’re lucky that people have connected with that.”

Grace agrees, “This fandom, it’s like a family. I’m just honored to be a part of it.”

As their fan base continues to grow by the day, the two did not confirm or deny whether or not another collaboration is officially on the horizon. However, they playfully urged fans to keep watching, hinting that there might be more surprises in store.

“You never know,” they both smiled. “Stay tuned.”

In the meantime, both artists are locked into their solo projects. Grace, steadily growing her country fanbase, teased her long-awaited debut album for next summer. Jonas, riding the wave of “IDK” is leaning into his new sound and forging his own path. If “IDK” was the kickoff, what comes next is sure to raise the bar.
