Timothée Chalamet may have left the Oscars empty-handed on Sunday, but he seems to be handling it well because he's already focused on his next project. Yes, it's the big one we've been waiting for, Dune: Part Three.

On Monday afternoon, Timothée shared on his Instagram the first look at his character Paul Atreides in the upcoming third installment of the sci-fi franchise. He also mentioned a trailer would be coming, which we also have a look at.

Dune: Part Three Trailer

Let's just say our expectations are rising. The epic sci-fi environments, ships, and battles are doing a lot to fill the "Star Wars" shaped hole in our hearts. It's exciting to see cinematography of this caliber in a sci-fi movie again, and it's only going to look better on the big screen. The trailer doesn't give too much story away, but as it's been revealed previously, the third movie will be based on Dune's sequel book, Dune Messiah, so many people already have a general idea of what's coming. As hinted in the trailer, Paul seems to be steering away from the hero's journey he started on in the first two movies. Going back to the end of Dune: Part Two, Paul was dubbed the "Lisan al-Gaib," a messianic figure from an ancient prophecy, and it seems as though this movie will explore the aftermath of that and the power that has gone to his head. You could also guess that he's going down a darker path from the pretty mean "Kubrick Stare" in his poster.

According to Director Denis Villeneuve, these movies are not a trilogy, despite there being three. The first two serve as his version of the book, Dune, while Dune: Part Three will serve as an epilogue. According to IndieWire, Villeneuve spoke at a press event earlier this week.

“It happens many years later. It’s a very different movie from the two first ones,” he said during the Q&A portion of the event. “I said to myself, ‘It’s a good idea to go [and] come back to this world, not by nostalgia, but by urgency.’ And to go there with a critical eye and not to be self-indulgent. And I said to my team that it will be a very different film, very different, a new movie, but with a different tone, with a different rhythm, with a different pace.”

In addition to the poster that Timothée shared, the movie's official Instagram shared nine posters in total, giving us a better look at series regular Zendaya, as well as newcomers Anya Taylor-Joy and Robert Pattinson. Both feel like perfect additions to the franchise. Anya absolutely carried Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, and more than proved that she's capable of a big action role, and Robert is Batman himself, so no explanation needed.

Zendaya as Chani

Anya Taylor-Joy as Alia Atreides, Paul's younger sister

Robert Pattinson as Scytale, a shapeshifting adversary to Paul

Dune: Part Three opens in theaters and IMAX December 18, 2026.
