Avengers assemble...again!
It's 2026, which means that Avengers: Doomsday officially comes out this year. We don't know much about this movie outside of a few teasers and the cast, and there sure are a lot of them. In addition to favorites from previous Avengers movies like Chris Hemsworth's Thor and Paul Rudd's Ant-Man, we'll be seeing new heroes unite with them like the cast of the Thunderbolts and Fantastic Four, both of which came out last year. The real surprise in all of this has been the return of some of the original cast of the 20th Century Fox X-Men movies which initially premiered over 25 years ago!! And oh yeah, Robert Downey Jr. is returning but this time he will be playing Doctor Doom.
A movie of this scale has a lot of news coming with it, so we will be gathering every major confirmed update below.
Teaser Trailers
Instead of dropping one teaser and then leaving us hanging, Marvel has been gifting us character specific teasers and we are sure more are planned. We've caught up with old friends and even had some meet each other for the first time. We will update this list as more become available.
Steve Rogers Teaser
We had some pretty loaded thoughtson this teaser here. Don't get us wrong, Chris Evans as Captain America was something special, but it feels like fan service to bring him back after his sendoff in Avengers: Endgame. His inclusion must be crucial to the plot. In hindsight, now that we know more teasers were coming, this doesn't feel as desperate, but maybe it wasn't the best one to lead with as a lot of fans shared similar sentiments.
Thor Teaser
What a 180 from Thor. The last we saw the God of Thunder was in Thor: Love and Thunder, and the character was basically turned into a goofball. If you've been keeping up with the MCU, you know Thor has had his fair share of goofy moments, but Love and Thunder almost felt like a parody of the character. It's refreshing to see his serious and reflective side again. Fatherhood looks good on him.
X-Men Teaser
We've shared thoughts on this teaser, here. Overall, it's exciting to reunite with this cast, but hopefully they help usher in a new, younger team that we can follow as they grow up.
Black Panther / Fantastic Four Teaser
Interesting vibes from this teaser. Immediately the tone is somber with Shuri, reflecting on the lose of her brother T'Challa and her mother Queen Ramonda. This emotion is only heightened by the real-life passing of the late Chadwick Boseman, the original Black Panther. She talks about a king's duty to prepare his followers for the afterlife, and she has her own alluding to her duty of being a superhero. Then after all of this, Shuri and M'Baku approach an oddly pristine Ben Grimm/The Thing in the desert for a comedic line. Real tension and emotion was being built only to have it deflated by a joke. Marvel's all-too-typical "so that just happened" form of writing has become a meme where serious moments are often cut short by one-liners. We can't judge the movie based on a teaser, but clearly old habits are hard to break.
Confirmed Avengers: Doomsday cast
The cast of Doomsday is big, somehow even more stuffed than the cast of Avengers: Endgame. If you don't have time to sit through their 5.5 hour cast announcement livestream, we've got a list of every confirmed cast member so far. We will keep this list updated as more casting news is revealed.
