August 2023: The Start of The Unwell Network

When Alex Cooper announced The Unwell Network in August 2023, it felt like a strategic expansion of her Call Her Daddy empire. Cooper named TikTok star Alix Earle among the network’s first signees, touting Earle’s massive Gen Z reach, "get ready with me" format and relatability as reasons she’d be a key multiplatform creator. The partnership came with promises of creative development across formats. Within weeks, Earle launched Hot Mess, a podcast framed as an extension of her influencer brand and a chance to translate social-media momentum into long-form audio.

August 2024: Alex Cooper’s $125M Power Play

A year later, Cooper leveraged that momentum into a headline-making career move. As her Spotify contract expired she inked a reported $125 million deal with SiriusXM to bring The Unwell Network (including Call Her Daddy and affiliated shows) to the broadcaster. The deal underscored Cooper’s role as a dealmaker and put Unwell’s talent roster, including Earle, squarely under a new corporate umbrella. This raised stakes around ownership, distribution and ad revenue for every show on the network.

February 2025:  Alix Earle’s Hot Mess Suddenly Axed

Trouble bubbled up publicly in February 2025 when reports surfaced that Hot Mess had been dropped by Unwell. The timing... just after Earle was photographed in New Orleans but did not attend Unwell’s Super Bowl party. This prompted speculation about whether personal rifts or contract disputes were at play.

By late March Earle signaled a retreat from podcasting, announcing a "pause on podcasting right now for the foreseeable future" and saying she couldn’t go into the details yet. Her vague statement and social-media silence fueled rumors about a behind-the-scenes fallout. Cooper countered quickly on her Instagram Story, insisting the split with Hot Mess did not involve withholding intellectual property, writing that Unwell "gave her everything back" and implying Earle retained ownership.

Through the spring and summer, Earle kept followers engaged, but tight-lipped. In a May WSJ. Magazine interview she called the situation "a little bit of a hot mess," and in August she directly teased followers with, "How much time do you have?" when pushed for details. Fans and fellow creators traded theories about whether the split was legal, personal, or reputational, and whether more revelations were imminent.

The drama shifted again in October when Cooper posted a promo clip for Unwell Las Vegas set to Britney Spears’ "Circus," a track Earle had used on Dancing With the Stars the month prior. Cooper captioned the post, "How much time do you have? Cause we could go all night 😉," a phrasing that echoed Earle’s earlier tease and was widely read as deliberate shade. Whether intentional or coincidental, the move amplified perceptions that the two were trading public jabs through carefully curated social content.

February 2026: Alix Likes Sofia Franklyn’s Bombshell Memoir Post

Tensions widened in February when Sofia Franklyn, Cooper’s former Call Her Daddy co-host, announced a memoir titled Daddy Issues promising her version of the Call Her Daddy fallout. Earle and her sister Ashtin liked the announcement, a small but conspicuous social signal that many interpreted as tacit support for Franklyn’s narrative and a further distancing from Cooper.

April 9, 2026: Alix Reposts a Video About Alex Being a "Grim Reaper"

On April 9 Earle amplified criticism by reposting a TikTok from @TheBravoMom that described Cooper as an "ambulance chaser" and "Grim Reaper" who seeks out people at their lowest to profit off their vulnerability. The video also accused Cooper of having "screw[ed] over" Franklyn. By sharing the clip, Earle moved from coy hints to sharing explicit third-party allegations, a step that widened the online debate and drew new commentators into the dispute.

April 13, 2026: Alex Publicly Challenges Alix

Cooper responded publicly on April 13 with a TikTok that accused Earle of being passive-aggressive and challenged her to be explicit about any allegations. Cooper stressed there was "no NDA" and urged Earle to "just say what you got to say," framing Earle’s silence as performative. The post was a direct public pressure tactic intended to force clarity... Earle’s short comment, "Okay on it!!," escalated expectations that she would finally detail her side.

April 14, 2026: Alix Posts Her Reaction

The next day Earle posted a TikTok showing her friends and sister waking her to watch Cooper’s viral clip. Her reaction was surprisingly shocking. She laughed, asked if it was funny, and later said the clip "literally made my whole day." The video suggested she was unbothered by Cooper’s public push.

April 15, 2026: Alex Says It’s "Not a PR Stunt"

Cooper used Instagram Stories to insist the confrontation wasn’t staged, and to call out Brianna "Chickenfry" LaPaglia for stirring the pot. She posted screenshots of what she presented as friendly DMs with LaPaglia, asking her to stop "girl on girl" piling and insisting that she had more to say about Earle.

April 15, 2026: Brianna “Chickenfry” LaPaglia Drops Explosive Accusations About Alex

Also on April 15, LaPaglia publicly declared support for Earle, alleging Cooper had a pattern of being "very, very mean" and claiming she’d heard "tea" about the Hot Mess situation years earlier.

April 15, 2026: Alex Fires Back at "Mean Girl" Claims With DM Receipts

Cooper fired back at LaPaglia, posting screenshots to argue their past interactions were cordial and to dispute LaPaglia’s portrayal. The exchange underscored how quickly private messages and informal interactions can be weaponized as public evidence, and how both sides have used selective DMs and screenshots to bolster competing narratives.

April 15, 2026: Claire Holt Chimes In

@thebravomom I think it says a lot about whose friends with Alex vs. Alix.  It’s also more believable than a Carls Jr. commercial or Super Bowl party #alexcooper #alixearle #unwell ♬ original sound - TheBravoMom

Things got messier when @TheBravoMom pointed out Claire Holt’s charity work with Alix Earle and Holt’s past marriage to Matt Kaplan, Alex Cooper’s ex.

April 16, 2026: Dave Portnoy Weighs In

Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy weighed in, saying he’d heard the story about a planned interview that never happened. Cooper reportedly wanted to book Grace O’Malley to air her side of a dispute with Brianna LaPaglia, but Portnoy advised against a one-sided sitdown and suggested having both women on instead. He called LaPaglia’s point-of-view "fair," but was careful to play it down as not taking sides, saying he’s still friendly with Cooper, LaPaglia and Earle. His comments gave the backlash more industry weight...confirming parts of LaPaglia’s version of events, but stopped short of resolving who’s in the right.
